James Victore will discuss his just released book, Victore or, Who Died and Made You Boss? (Abrams), and sign books after the event.

Join us for part three of Design Conversations, an informal three-event series hosted by W Minneapolis – The Foshay, benefiting BrandLab, and featuring internationally recognized design experts. Grab a cocktail, pull up a chair, and join the conversation with some of the nation’s leading creative geniuses as they discuss the state of visual arts, brand identity, and design. Produced by Rocket Design Resources.

The series concludes Wednesday, November 3 with James Victore and Debbie Millman:

  • Cocktail Reception: 5:00pm – 6:00pm
  • Conversation: 6:00pm – 8:00pm
  • Book signings with James Victore and cocktails to fuel ongoing conversation immediately following and until the bar staff insists on going home.

Tickets are $25 for AIGA members, $35 for nonmembers and $20 for students. All proceeds go to further the efforts of BrandLab.

Design Conversations is a series benefiiting Twin Cities’ The BrandLab, a nonprofit established to create opportunities in the marketing industry for students with diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

James Victore is an independent graphic designer whose clients include Moët & Chandon, Target, Amnesty International, the Shakespeare Project, The New York Times, MTV, the Lower East Side Tenement Museum and Portfolio Center. He has been awarded an Emmy for television animation, a Gold Medal from the Broadcast Designers Association, the Grand Prix from the Brno Biennele (Czech Republic) and Gold and Silver Medals from the New York Art Director’s Club. Victore’s posters are in the permanent collections of the Palais du Louvre, the Library of Congress and the Museum für Gestaltung among others. He teaches graphic design at the School of Visual Arts in New York City and is a member of the AGI.

Debbie Millman is national AIGA president and managing partner and president of the design division at Sterling Brands, the largest independent brand consultancy in the country. She has been there for 11 years where she has led long-term partnerships with global clients including Gillette, Kraft, Nestle, Pepsi, Campbell’s, Johnson & Johnson, Glaxo-Smithkline, Pfizer and Unilever.

Millman is a design blogger, including www.fastcompany.com and Speak Up, which was included in the 2006 Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum Triennial. She is also a regular contributor to Print magazine, and teaches Creative Leadership at the School of Visual Arts. In 2005, she began hosting the first live weekly radio talk show about graphic design on the internet. The show is titled “Design Matters with Debbie Millman,” and it is featured on the Voice America Business Network and as podcasts on iTunes. She frequently lectures on the virtues of brands and authenticity. She believes that the condition of brand reflects the condition of our culture and is bound and determined to further the causes of brand consultants everywhere.
