The American Swedish Institute
Even if there’s still snow on the ground, spring will be here soon! Cocktails with Creatives will be at The American Swedish Institute on Thursday, April 7th, from 6–8 p.m. Of particular note, The America Swedish Institute will be featuring the art of Jesper Löfvenborg. We’re excited to see all the returning faces and the new ones.
The American Swedish Institute, housed in the Turnblad mansion, is a place to learn about and experience Swedish, Swedish-American, and Nordic culture; learn about the role of Swedish and other immigrants in Minnesota’s history; and share stories and experiences.
Each month AIGA Minnesota hosts Cocktails with Creatives, a mixer event at various locations around the Twin Cities. This event is a great networking and social opportunity so bring your business cards and your ideas!

About Jesper Löfvenborg — Swedish artist and cartoonist
Jesper Löfvenborg (1976– ) lives and works in Karlstad, Sweden. While an exchange student in Sioux Falls, SD, Jesper visited the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis to research work by his grandmother, textile designer Ethel Halvorsson. Ethel designed three textile tapestries which traveled from Karlstad, Sweden, to Minneapolis as part of the 1952 Värmland Gift. His interest piqued, Jesper arranged an internship with ASI curator Curt Pederson in 2004, and has kept in contact since. As an artist Jesper’s work reflects familiar Swedish customs and traditions, but illustrated in cartoon fashion. Jesper also illustrates a weekly cartoon for the Karlstad news. The ASI exhibition will feature Jesper’s paintings and cartoon illustrations, as well as creating an in-gallery painting of familiar ASI subjects, and programming with the ASI education department.
